As the headlines poured out “Paul Walker dies at 40” “Fast and Furious Star Dies in Car Crash” what grabbed our attention the most was that he was on his way back from co-hosting a charity fundraiser to help raise money for the Philippines Typhoon victims. From the headlines, we learned about what he left behind, a family, countless films, and a mission to help aid in disaster relief efforts with the non-profit he created, REACH OUT WorldWide.

After returning from a visit to Haiti in 2010, REACH OUT WorldWide was born. Along with several of his companions, Actor/Producer Paul Walker saw the need between the availability of skilled resources and the requirement for such personnel in post-disaster situations. ROWW is on mission to fill this unmet need. According to the website, ROWW is a network of committed professionals with first responder skill-set (including project management, logistics, heavy equipment operation, EMT, paramedic, firefighting, and healthcare, etc). The volunteers provide their expertise when disasters strike and augment local resources with the goal of accelerating relief efforts on a worldwide basis. ROWW has developed Standard Operating Procedures that facilitate arriving quickly, clearing access, providing basic necessities and medical assistance to ease the survivors’ pain and bringing hope in the bleakest of circumstances.

ROWW seems to still be in development, but one very important element felt through the foundation its philosophy: by making a difference in just one person’s life, the world has been changed for the better.

In conclusion, for years, we have heard tragic stories of celebrities losing their lives at far too young of age and for some of us, we’ve lost friends or family members at times too soon. There is always a deep sadness with loss, but today, we can share in the good Paul Walker has done and the legacy he leaves behind. Beneath the grieving surface, we believe his tragedy combined with legacy will spark a desire in people all ages to make every second of life count. On behalf of Team Conscious, our hearts and prayers go out to Paul Walker’s loved ones.
